Cultural event held by the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City to commemorate the 70th anniversary of India's independence

On August 18, 2017, the Consulate General of India organised a musical concert to celebrate 70th anniversary of India's independence.The event welcomed participation of Ambassador of India to Vietnam, H.E. P. Harish; Deputy Director of Department of External Relations, Mr. Doan Tuan Linh; Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO), Mr. Huynh Minh Thien; Vice Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front of HCMC, Mr. Vũ Thanh Lưu; Vice Chairwoman of Vietnam – Indian Friendship Association (VIFA), Mrs. Ho Thi Trinh Anh; Vice Chairwoman of Vietnam Women Association, Mrs. Trần Thị Phương Hoa; Founder of HUFLIT, Mr. Huynh The Cuoc; Vice Rector of USSH, Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan; President of INCHAM, Mr. Dilbagh Singh and senior members of Indian community HCMC, friends of India and media.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador P. Harish conveyed his greetings on the 70th anniversary of independence and said that the year was special as it marked a milestone in the India – Viet Nam relations as two countries celebrate the 45th anniversary of establishment diplomatic relations and 10th anniversary of Strategic Partnership which was upgraded to comprehensive strategy partnership during the historic visit of Prime Minister Modi to Vietnam in September 2016. He said that this was also the 25th year of India - ASEAN partnership.

Consul General Mrs Smita Pant thanked the City authorities, especially the Department of External Relations, HUFO, VIFA and other departments of the City for their continued support to several activities held by the Consulate as both sides celebrated the Year of Friendship and thanked members of community for their active support. 

Deputy Director of Department of External Relations Mr Doan Tuan Linh said that since the beginning of this year, a series of events had been held by city authorities and Consulate to highlight this ‘Year of Friendship’ and especially the 3rd International Yoga Day organised in the open space at Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Boulevard demonstrated the popularity of yoga.
