71st Independence Day Celebration

The 71st Independence day of India was celebrated at the premises of the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City today with great enthusiasm and fervor. Hon'ble Deputy Chairman of the Upper House of Indian Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Professor P J Kurien and Hon'ble Members of Parliament Mr Laxmi Narayan Yadav and Mrs Viplove Thakur, also graced the occasion.The ceremony was attended by about 275 people that included members of the Indian Community, Persons of Indian Origin and Vietnamese friends. CG Smita Pant read out the President's address . A cultural performance was organized by the Indian and Vietnamese students , rendering patriotic songs in Hindi and an Indian dance.

A day earlier, Ho Chi Minh Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) in cooperation with the Southern Institute of Social Sciences (SISS) and Vietnam India Friendship Association( VIFA) had organised an event to commemorate India's Independence Day. The event welcomed participation of Major General Nguyen Van Nam, Deputy Commander of the Military Zone 7; Mr. Tran Phuoc Anh, Deputy Director of Department of External Relations; Mr. Huynh Minh Thien, Chairman of HUFO; Mrs. Ho Thi Trinh Anh, Vice Chairwoman of VIFA; Most Ven. Thich Thien Tam, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of Vietnam Buddhist Sanga; Associate Professor Dr. Le Thanh Sang, Director of the SISS; Prof. Huynh The Cuoc, Founder of HUFLIT; Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, Vice Rector of USSH; Mr. Ho Trong Tri, Deputy Director General of FOSCO; Mr. Dilbagh Singh, President of INCHAM; scholars and senior members of Indian community and students Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India
